Rootstock Republic is a boutique, broad-based music production company that specializes in consulting, contracting, music preparation, live performance and studio recording primarily for strings. The heart and soul of the company is founded on and steeped in connection—to its musical principles, to its artists and to its partners; and since its founding in 2014, Rootstock has shared creative partnership with Red Bull Studios, Interscope Records, VH1,Tidal and Beats by Dre; as well as the New York Film Festival, Solange, Ebony Bones, OneRepublic and the Beijing Philharmonic. The company is committed to centering and creating  dynamic performance platforms for string players, arrangers and orchestrators of color and passionate about fostering community engagement, implementing educational outreach and building cross-cultural collaborations in an effort to further diversify the string field on a global scale.

Rootstock Republic takes center stage in this innovative approach to live string performance. Often seen in collaboration with artists like Aretha Franklin, Toshi Reagon, John Legend and Janelle Monaé, Rootstock has assembled an all-star ensemble of its own.

Pairing some of NYC’s most versatile string players with one of the industry’s most inventive turntablists, this jukebox-inspired performance will sample the songbooks of Donnie Hathaway, Chaka Khan, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder and more!

A constant high point during the evening was the incredible accompaniment from the string section, Rootstock Republic…the strings were served to further envelope the crowd and conveyed a sense of wistfulness, longing, [and] melancholy.
